Meet Morgan : The Story Behind Moga Yoga Studio
Morgan : “Every space carries an energy”.
You feel it the moment you enter, in the light, the silence, the way the air moves through the room. Some places invite you to slow down without explaining why.
Moga Yoga Studio is one of those places.
But behind the atmosphere of any meaningful space, there is always a human journey, a path that slowly shaped the intention behind every detail. For Moga, that journey began far from the Atlantic coast of Morocco. It began in India.
A Path That Began in India
More than a decade ago, Morgan Goethals traveled to India, a journey that would profoundly transform his relationship with yoga.
Like many people at first, he had encountered yoga through its physical dimension. But India revealed something much deeper. There, yoga was not simply a form of exercise or a wellness routine. It was a philosophy of life, a discipline of presence, breath, and inner freedom.
Ashrams, early morning practices, long hours of study and observation slowly reshaped his understanding. Yoga was no longer about mastering postures. It was about understanding the mind. Listening to the body. Learning how to be fully present.
That experience planted a seed that would continue to grow for years.
Morgan continued studying and practicing across different cities and traditions, from the disciplined Mysore method to contemporary studios in Europe and the United States, gradually weaving together tradition and modernity in his own approach to teaching.
But the real question remained: Where would this path lead?
Why a Yoga Studio in Essaouira
Some places seem to call people at the right moment in their lives.
For Morgan, that place became Essaouira.
This coastal city has long attracted artists, travelers, musicians and seekers, people drawn to its unusual rhythm. Life here moves differently. The Atlantic wind softens the edges of everyday urgency.
The medina itself invites wandering rather than rushing. In many ways, the spirit of Essaouira mirrors the deeper intention of yoga: creating space to breathe, observe, and reconnect.
When Morgan arrived, he recognized something simple but essential. The city already carried the right energy for inner work, but there was space for a dedicated sanctuary. A place intentionally created for practice. A place where people could step out of the noise of daily life and reconnect with themselves.
From that vision, Moga Yoga Studio was born.
A Sacred Space for Yoga
From the beginning, the idea behind Moga was never simply to create another yoga studio. Morgan wanted to build a space that felt like a refuge.
When students arrive for a class, the invitation is simple: “Welcome to your sacred space.”
The phrase is not symbolic. It reflects the intention of the studio itself.
The warm light, natural materials, quiet atmosphere and careful pacing of classes are all designed to support a deeper experience, not only of movement, but of presence.
At Moga, yoga is not approached as performance or physical achievement. It is a moment to slow down. To breathe consciously. To reconnect with the body after long days of travel, work, or mental distraction.
"Welcome to Your Sacred Space”
More Than a Yoga Studio
Over time, Moga has become more than just a place to take yoga classes.
It has grown into a meeting point for people from many different backgrounds, an intimate and vibrant community connected by a shared intention to slow down and reconnect.
A traveler visiting Essaouira for a few days might find themselves practicing next to a local artisan. Someone stepping onto a yoga mat for the very first time may share the space with a practitioner who has been practicing for years.
In this way, the studio reflects the spirit of the city itself : open, welcoming, and quietly transformative.
A Journey That Continues
The journey that began in India more than a decade ago continues every day inside the walls of Moga Yoga Studio.
Each class becomes another small chapter in that story, another opportunity for someone to pause, breathe, and reconnect with themselves.
Yoga, after all, is not a destination. It is a path. And like the winding streets of the Essaouira medina, that path reveals itself slowly, one step (and one breath) at a time.
